Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority
Pathways Climate Institute, in collaboration with ICF, is leading the multi-hazard climate exposure and vulnerability assessment for Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA).
The exposure and vulnerability assessment includes coastal flooding with sea level rise, shallow and emergent groundwater, fluvial flooding, subsidence, wildfire, landslides, and climate stressors including extreme precipitation, extreme heat, heat waves, fire weather conditions, and drought. Pathways developed new climate hazard and climate indicator data sets for key asset-specific operational thresholds such as stormwater capacity, heat thresholds for heat illness prevention, and regional wildfire risk. The vulnerability assessment will focus on narrative-based exploration key asset sensitivity and the potential impacts on operations, service, and human safety because of changing climate.
Stakeholder engagement is accomplished throughout the project, via regular feedback from a technical advisory group, and includes focus groups and staff interviews where necessary to deliver a product which has relevant and actionable climate insights for the Guadalupe Yard.
