Plan Princeton Game of Floods Community Engagement

Image-empty-state_edited.jpg

County of San Mateo

Pathways developed the Game of Floods – Princeton building on versions of a similar game developed originally by Marin County and evolved by the Urban Sustainability Directors Network that has been played in multiple locations around the US. The aim of the Game of Floods is to help participants (typically city and county staff and community members) develop better understanding of how sea level rise will impact their local community and what adaptation solutions are available.

Pathways adapted the game to follow the typical adaptation planning process and used a Princeton specific map-based gameboard and a role play format to help participants understand the issues from different perspectives. The gameboard illustrated Princeton infrastructure and sea level rise and storm surge inundation extents. In addition, Pathways developed a presentation and how-to-guides to accompany the game materials.
