Caltrans
Caltrans' San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge Sea Level Rise Adaptation Study combines technical investigations and analysis, public and stakeholder engagement, high-level cost estimates, to develop conceptual design concepts to protect the eastern approach from near-term, mid-term, and long-term sea level rise and storm surge. The study builds on past efforts and studies such as MTC's Climate Adaptation Eastern Approach Focus Study. This study will provide more detailed sea level rise exposure analysis and adaptation strategy development.
Pathways Climate Institute is leading the existing conditions phase and is responsible for technical analysis including the development of the existing conditions summary report, compilation of climate-related data, and the preparation of a sea level rise and storm surge risk assessment. Pathways jointly with ARUP will perform a site-specific wave and tidal current modeling and scour analysis to evaluate hydrodynamic and associated risks to transportation assets. The analysis will inform adaptation strategy formulation.
