Katie Riles is a climate resilience scientist who utilizes her expertise in GIS and data analysis to tackle complex coastal and climate change related challenges. She is passionate about leveraging data to support the creation of equitable adaptation strategies. She brings a unique perspective to the team with her background in geology and earth sciences and is familiar with the best available climate science and climate hazard datasets in California.Â
Katie has a broad range of experience using python and ArcGIS Pro to develop customized applications and tools and is skilled in managing large datasets. She develops GIS-based technical analyses in python to support a wide range of projects and specializes in conducting exposure analyses of physical assets and socio-economic indicators. She is skilled in building interactive online maps and dashboards to communicate information to decision makers and the public. Katie has experience working and communicating with a broad range of public agencies and is dedicated to uplifting marginalized communities.
Katie supports a range of projects spanning from the local level to statewide assessments including but not limited to: the Caltrans Climate Change Vulnerability and Risk Assessment, the Transportation Agency for Monterey County Regional Transportation Vulnerability Assessment, the Port of San Francisco Waterfront Resilience Program, the Transportation Authority of Marin Sea Level Rise Adaptation Planning Study, and the Valley Transportation Authority Climate Action and Adaptation Plan.
When she is not working, Katie enjoys taking beach walks and looking for wildlife in her current home of Morro Bay or chasing snow to ski in the Sierras!
